What is TAYLRD?
Transition Age Youth Launching Realized Dreams (TAYLRD) is a federally funded initiative aimed to positively impact the lives of Kentucky’s 16–25-year-old youth who have, or are at-risk of developing, behavioral health challenges.
Transitioning to adulthood can be hard, especially if you have, or are at risk of developing, a behavioral health challenge. Transition-aged youth face many different barriers on the road to adulthood, including:
Research shows that although TAY are particularly vulnerable to mental health problems, they underutilize behavioral health treatment with many avoiding seeking services due to fear of stigma, long wait times for appointments, and lack of insurance, all of which create barriers to accessing mental health care.
By improving access to culturally and developmentally appropriate supports and services across the state, TAYLRD hopes that all young people in the state of Kentucky can access a seamless array of high-quality services that will help them achieve their goals and reach adulthood successfully.
As a TAYLRD organization, our five goals are:

- A strengthened system of youth directed behavioral health supports.
- An enhanced infrastructure of sustainable supports and services for transition age youth.
- More public awareness of signs and symptoms for serious behavioral health challenges facing young people, and the developmentally appropriate responses to those challenges.
- Improved access to services for young adults that meet their individualistic cultural and linguistic needs.
- Increased involvement of families, allies, supporters and community members to enhance the Transition Age Youth support network.
What is a Youth Drop-In Center?
Drop-in centers are helping places that assist youth and young adults in identifying and reaching personal goals by reducing barriers to behavioral health services for youth. Drop-in centers offer specialized services and supports to youth and are staffed by behavioral health professionals, including Youth Peer Support Specialists, Case Managers, Supported Employment Specialists, Clinicians, etc.
Drop-in centers are a form of youth friendly engagement tools that foster communities of inclusion and that respect and welcome the culture, ethnicity, race, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and gender identities of the communities in which they serve, and beyond.
